Moonlight’s first sailing race – Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club

Valere from the Noosa yacht and rowing
club contacted me a month or so back and told me that they were planning the
inaugural Nursery Gaff Rig regatta on the Noosa River moonlights never been
in a race before so we thought that sounds like a lot of fun after a week of wet and windy weather on
Sunshine Coast the forecast for Sunday morning was 10 knots and fire so we
loaded it up the boat onto the trailer and drove about half an hour north to
New Seville where we launched at the Tewantin marina into the nursery River took us about half an hour to rig
moonlight and then we made a damn stream to the Noosa yacht and rowing club we put moonlight ashore just alongside a
little park where there was a festival going on with live music music and we
sat there for a while iron off the competition then introduced ourselves to
competitors and Dory the briefing for the rush was filled
about 11:30 I don’t know that they really understood that we’d never
actually sailed in a race before but the course was explained to us and a little
mud map drawn on the back of a piece of paper it was all we needed to get
underway apart from the stats of the next three
hours this is as close as you ever got to the rest of the field we did manage
to come in fourth out of a field of five in the final race the second race was a
bit problematic for us with the current and dying winds we didn’t actually make
it around the damn weed mark so regardless of wins and losses
everyone had a great time competing feverishly for that barrel of Brahma
turned out everyone wins surprised and even in fifth position we managed to
score a really nice bottle to bundaberg rum so with their precious little bottle of
bundy stowed securely end of the wreath thwart climbed aboard and mated back up
the river to to wanton
