  1. Critical thought 101:
Q: How do inmates get cell phones?
    A: From correctional officers.
Q:How much is a phone worth in prison?
A:About $500 will get you one when available.
Q:Who makes money at for profit prisons?
    A:1)State employees with government benefits.
2)Companies with state contracts for clothing, bedding, canteen.
3)Employers who pay prisoners less than 1/3 of minimum wage.
    Q:Do inmates have cash?
A:Rarely. SC uses a payment system called J-Pay and cash is contraband. J-pay can be used to buy to buy items from the canteen for those whose privilege is not suspended for disciplinary violations. Canteen items=dorm dollars. These are used to make transactions between inmates. Contraband and otherwise.
Q:Can inmate receive things from family sent from the outside?
A:Yes. SCDC allows an inmate a maximum of 10 books/magazines subject to approval at any given time.
Q:Do they have libraries in prison?
A:Yes. If you are awake and not on lockdown or disciplinary and you get to the sign up sheet before full when the CO puts it out, you can go to the library/law library. Each dorm gets 1-2 days a week. up to maybe 10 for library and 5 for law library for the duration until movement on the yard is allowed again.
Q:Are there self help books and instructional books?
A:Yes, the selection isn't very good and the law library is incomplete. Collegiate texts like electricians manuals may be denied for "security reasons". Many legal books have important pages missing and the most important ones regarding inmates rights and teaching what qualifies as negligence particulars and lawsuit particulars/expert filing of forms and motions may have never hit the yard.
Q:Is there school there? Yes. Inmate can earn a GED. They used to have college programs until the COs complained. Then the programs were only for them. They rarely used it so SCDC got rid of that and there is no higher learning anymore.
Q:Do they have drug and alcohol treatment programs?
A:Yes. N/A A/A meet and are inmate run. Those sentenced to a program go to ATU (I believe it is called) They do that in the final 6-12 months of an inmates sentence. So if you do 30 years, You get help right before you go home. If you do 1 year, you likely go after evaluation @ intake at Kirkland correctional in Columbia.
    Q:How do I know this?
A: I was an inmate @Lee correctional for 8 months at the end of my sentence in the ATU program. It was on the punishment level of the yard where privileges are revoked and canteen is but a dream for many. I walked by some of these same inmates on the way to the kitchen or pill line. Virtually the only way to interact with inmates from other dorms are listed above besides commissary trips and trips to lock up or operations. People with time for good behavior can lose it for disciplinary reasons. I was in prison for being in the vicinity of baby asprin a confidential informant came across state lines after being bailed out. The deal the police give is for help informing on illegal activity. NOT THE CREATION OF NEW ACTIVITY.
A real estate salesman for Keller Williams approached me at a pool hall where I played APA and said he could get me pills. He tried to get me to find him a gun and buy/trade for drugs to get out of 25 years on a federal 1st offense for getting caught selling 1200 real ecstasy pills. I came to SC after he called me 20+ times at work. There was audio and video in the car. The video was edited and the audio had interference any time I said something that would give the official police report a weakening blow.
This was in the months after the PATRIOT ACT was inacted. It turns out he was a member of an Asian gang who were ALL part of an FBI investigation. They were allowed to sell pills to further implicate people in the investigation for 9 months. Many of the players where I was were underage school kids or drop outs. I was not allowed to bring forth telephone evidence of the harassment at trial. no less that 5 police officers lied under oath the pills hit my hand (making the exchange complete). This video evidence was omitted from trial and destroyed. I wasn't aware I was in the middle of a criminal FBI investigation until I had been tried and sentenced.

  2. Why should you worry about greedy C.O.'s giving phones to felons? Gang activity? Vengeance? Surely you don't have any accessible information online such as family pictures, banking info, credit reports, where you pay your bills to the city and state and the addresses where they are used. I'm sure nobody in prison has ever been in the I.T. field or knows how to use one. They have no time to learn either… fucking think people. Tax the shit out of drugs. Rebuild the system and take care of those who need help, before YOU need help and there is none to be found. Did you know for about 8 hours of time the government will pay 1/2 of ANY recent releases paycheck in tax credits to your company under the WOTC? With Trump allowing business to get all the cake , THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BETTER TIME TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF DOING YOUR CIVIC DUTY AND HELPING "REHAB" SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT REALLY ALL THAT BAD. Had a substance problem or made a mistake in youth. A diploma means nothing in my world but who was pampered while they did keg stand at a frat/sorority dorm. Doctor's so afraid of doing wrong and paying that they do nothing. There needs to be a constitutional referendum. If you keep reading a book made and edited to subjugate the masses like King James did and call it the ultimate authority, You are doomed to the same consequences and professions we had 2000 ago. Sounds like progress huh? I see from your voted officials and laws you know it all and have it all under control. Get into some of that dry Deuteronomy and Leviticus and tell me about the sins of the fathers and the mildew of the house and get back to the reality that has been repeated.

  3. Think about your child caught experimenting with drugs. They could have a low custody level enough for work release and be sent to this level 3 yard. 2 people died from stabbings while I was there. Convicted of drugs that didn't exist. Walking the yard with people on 666 + multi life sentences. They snuck into the dorm all the time. Men who haven't seen a woman naked in years to hop in a shower and rub one out while thay watch the dumb woman at the desk put on makeup. Who let these people in the dorm? US!!! We need to make it safe for her so we had to walk around 1hr each on the list and do shower/dorm check? Wouldn't a REAL woman get a job somewhere good and safe? If you can't see men with shirts off and no AC what did you think it would be like? I could go on all night…

  4. Lying buckas, not twelve, two officers that's all you put in a dorm of 250. Lying ass. I been there twelve years….. It's only two officers and they are woman. Oh yes Scdc, you will pay for this mess. Dearly I hope. Sick of the lies y'all be putting out. If there was that many officer in a dorm them dude would not have done that. Your freaking warehouse went crazy on you huh. Make em Pay.

  5. Just lk @ th infrastructure that's Th Real Problem.
*Group Of WORN OUT Old MEN, Profiting On Brown & black ppl $OULS Clearly Not EVERYONE Criminal Minded. *Prefabricated World Wide ECONOMIC Genocide…[email protected] Best, Wake Up !!!!!!

  6. These comments are terrible do you people realize that yes these of the dead have family out here that are upset about loss of a family member? Yes these people did bad things but they do have families out here so be respectful to those that have lost a loved one. If it was one of my family members they died from this i would be heartbroken and devastated. Show some respect people these days are so cold hearted no wonder the world is so fucked up. Smh

  7. 7 lives lost. Cowards them officers. They could have used gas. 7 days of Riots….I believe will make them apologise.

  8. I am broken hearted. I have been so upset about this. About the lose of lives. How can people kill. How can you watch people be killed. How can you watch people lay and die for hours. I’m asking this of guards, inmates, police, anybody! How can this happen and you watch it happen?! I have no clue what I would do if put in each of those positions but this has effected me just reading and watching news reports. Lord help each and everyone effected. Every correction officer that may be scared to go to work. Every inmate scared to close their eyes. I don’t care why your there or what race you are your a human being not an animal. I pray for everyone.

  9. JAMES….ITS INTERESTING YOU CLEARLY CONTRADICT YOURSELF. YOU DONT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS PLETHORA OF PERSONAL DOCUMENTS BUT CLEARLY ASSUME THE LACK OF SKILLS IN INMATES…I.E. SURE THERE'S NO I.T. KNOWLEDGEABLE INMATES….THE PRISON SYSTEM IS FILLED WITH WASTED TALENT AND LOST POTENTIAL…LOOK UP POLITICAL DETAINEES IN US FEDERAL LOCKUPS…NO OCCUPATION OR LEVEL OF EDUCATION HAS BEEN SPARED INCARCERATION…ITS THE PREJUDGEMENT AND ASSUMPTION THAT SUCKS.

  10. IM SURE NOBODY IN PRISON HAS EVER BEEN IN THE I.T. FIELD OR KNOWS HOW TO USE ONE…..THAT IS A QUOTE…..A BIASED, SELF RIGHTEOUS STATEMENT THAT IS CONTRADICTORY….THAT WAS THE ONLY POINT I MADE AND YOU DIDNT ADDRESS IT….

  11. THE SOLUTION IS BLOW THEIR BRAINS OUT BECAUSE THEY WILL NEVER BE PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS SO WHY WASTE MONEY ON DEVILS!!!!

  12. Bullshit… I’ve been locked up in South Carolina and they chose Sunday to act out because Sunday is always short staffed. This would never happen in my city of New York. Rikers is always staffed with at least 1 CO for every inmate

  13. I spent 10 years in scdc…and it is always been 1 gaurd on each side of the dorms..1 white shirt..be it a sgt..or Lt.. It was hell in there. No kind of rehabilitation at all. Getting medical treatment was a joke. I hate these men died behind bars…things happen all the time in there.. To much sadness…
